The prestigious Student Achievement Selection (Pilmapres) was again held by the State University of Malang (UM). A series of selections accompanied the UM 2019 Pilmapres series. The initial screening (14 / 01-15 / 02) began at the faculty level. A total of 26 students were selected as student achievement finalists (mawapres) at this stage. Representing each faculty, all finalists competed for the title of Main Mawapres UM 2019. Different from before, nuances of innovation colored the implementation of the UM Pilmapres this year. The committee tries to make the implementation of the UM 2019 Pilmapres in accordance with the National Pilmapres selection standards. "Apart from perfecting last year's good implementation, we are also trying to adjust to the National Pilmapres selection standards," said Anton Agus Setiwan, Chair of the UM Student Achievement Association (Imapres).
In order to be able to hold the title of Mawapres Utama, finalists are still required to take part in various selections, ranging from written English tests, review Scientific Writing (KTI), achievement tests, focus group discussion (FGD), as well as an active English language test. Themed "Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) ”, the committee is working with the student team who won the National Student Scientific Week (Pimnas). By cooperating with the Pimnas champion student team, Anton hopes to sharpen his ideas and perfect the contestants' KTI proposals.
Anton also revealed that this year there are new types of tests. "The new type of test is called a personality test. In this test there are several tests carried out including achievement interviews, personality tests through games and FGD," said Anton. New innovations are also embedded in active English tests. The committee gave participants a little preassure at this phase. In this session, contestants were given topics related to SDGs and national issues. Only five minutes of time is allowed to compose the argument on a piece of paper the jury gives. In five minutes the two contestants were invited to present their ideas and ideas. Question and Answer (QnA) in the third five minutes presented as the final session of the test. In an interview conducted by the Communications crew, Anton emphasized that the entire series of selection had a huge influence on the assessment. "If there is a selection that is not followed without reason, it is highly likely that the person concerned will have a small chance to become the Main Mawapres of UM," he continued. Each participant emphasized that they must all out in releasing their ability and quality in each selection.
