BEM FIS Holds Open Casting Ahead of FFMI
Identical to social or political actions, this time the students of the Faculty of Social Sciences (FIS), State University of Malang (UM) tried to show their skills at the 2019 Indonesian Student Film Festival (FFMI). Various preparations were made, one of which was by holding an open casting. facilitated by the FIS Student Executive Board (BEM), Friday (10/5) in the FIS BEM room.
FFMI is a student film festival held annually by the Directorate General of Learning and Student Affairs, Ministry of Research, Technology and Higher Education (Kemenristekdikti). The theme of the FFMI this time is "Indonesia Gemilang" with the provision that the type of film is a short / fiction film with a maximum duration of ten minutes. By holding this FFMI, it is hoped that Indonesian students will be able to express and actualize themselves in the field of film, be able to form positive thought patterns, attitudes and behaviors, and love the country through the themes that are carried every year.

"It has been a long time since we realized that in this FIS there are quite a lot of children who are talented or have talents in the field of film. Yesterday, the faculty student affairs also provided information about the offer to take part in this FFMI. So, there is nothing wrong with us trying to work and participate, "said Ganiswara Aditya, the person in charge of the open casting and film-making project. Furthermore, the young man who is familiarly called Ganis revealed that open casting was only carried out to capture the talents of FIS students in acting. Meanwhile, for the issue of story ideas, screenwriters, cameramen, and other crews have been formed. Requirements to become producers, directors, and screenwriters of films to be included in the FFMI must be active students.
After the casting, the film will start production at the end of May. Films that have been produced must be uploaded to YouTube and the files sent before June 15, 2019. When interviewed by the Communications crew, Ganis stated that the films to be produced were short films about campus life and students while still referring to the theme "Indonesia Gemilang".
Unfortunately, the organizers of the BEM FIS admitted that the dissemination of information on open casting was not optimal. That's because the casting took place on the last Friday before the semester break. However, the casting process is still running smoothly and conducive.
"My hope and my colleagues are, of course, after the successful making of this film, FIS can form BKT Film. Thus, the extraordinary talents of children in videography and film at FIS have an adequate place. Because even though we are not children of film, we also have creativity in the arts, "said Ganis.
