PIOS Maba Grows Outstanding Student Seeds
Being an eagerly awaited event, the New Student Science, Sports and Arts Week (PIOS Maba) attracted the attention of the UM academic community. Held in February-March, this activity was lively. The annual agenda, which is devoted to new students, aims to accommodate students' creativity as well as to seek potential and high-achieving students at UM. Under the auspices of the eight UM faculty flags, the new UM class 2018 students joined this activity with enthusiasm.
There are three areas that are contested in the PIOS Maba agenda. First, in the field of scientific work coordinated by Dr. Heny Kusdiyanti, S.Pd., MM. Not only PKM five fields and PKM-KT, this year PIOS freshmen in the scientific field was colored with a new scheme called PKM-GFK (Constructive Futuristic Ideas). The PKM GFK has an output in the form of a video and focuses on national issues as well as the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Apart from the scientific field, the fields of sports and arts also provide competitions that are no less exciting. Sports field coordinated by Nurul Riyad Fadhli, S.Pd., M.Or. competing sports volleyball, basketball, futsal, pencak silat, karate, chess, and badminton. Art field coordinated by Hartono, S.Sn, M.Sn. has competitions in singing keroncong, pop, dangdut, seriosa, traditional solo dance, poetry reading, monologue writing, short stories, plays, painting, color photography, and black and white photography.
One of the interesting things in the 2019 New Student PIOS activity is the distribution of potential evenly in each faculty. For example, the Faculty of Letters (FS) did not always win in the arts, they were no less great in the realm of sports and scientific work. "There is a balance of achievement in eight faculties, not dominated by certain faculties," said Heny, the head of PIOS Maba and scientific coordinator when interviewed some time ago. More than that, Heny revealed that new students have many very good unexpected potentials. In fact, it is possible that they will be better than the seniors. It is hoped that after the implementation of this activity, there will be a continuation of the achievements of the Maba PIOS participants, both at the national and international levels.
Even though this year's PIOS Maba was held in the second semester, the enthusiasm of the new students was still fluctuating; excitement for the sake of excitement they feel in this event of exploring their potential and talents. In addition, each faculty also encourages freshmen to show themselves and support their friends who are competing. For example, the Faculty of Engineering (FT) included the PIOS agenda in the control book as a category of activities that must be followed by freshmen. More than just fun and competition in the field, PIOS Maba also strengthens student relations between study programs, departments, and faculties. They motivate each other, "The most important factor in the competition is not only skill, but support," said Alfina Sahliya, FT 2018 major in Industrial Technology.
