State University of Malang (UM) sent its best contingents in the Expo X 2019 Indonesian Student Entrepreneurship (KMI) event which was held at Batam State Polytechnic (22-24 / 11). Of the five contingents who departed, four of them managed to win this event. One of the categories won by UM was the creative industry category with the Boomi Watch product brought by Alfira Shofi Islamiah and Kadindra Kanya Pratitha, two UM Economics Faculty (FE) students. This team was accompanied by Dudung Ma'ruf Nuris, S.Pd., M.Pd. as the supervisor.
"Boomi Watch is a business that uses wood waste as a material for making watches," explained Dudung when interviewed by the Communications crew. "This wooden watch product has a unique design so that it has a high selling value," he added. According to the explanation by the FE UM lecturer, the turnover generated by this product reaches tens of millions of rupiah per month, considering the selling price which is equivalent to a national-scale quality watch. "The marketing of this product has also penetrated several cities in Indonesia, even abroad," he said.
Not only has high selling value, Boomi Watch also succeeded in bringing the KMI FE UM team to win a gold medal. "At that time I had a chance to ask Alfira, he said this product has never been included in any competition. Alhamdulillah, I immediately won first place in KMI, "explained Dudung. The process of preparation and implementation of the competition went well. "As for the preparation, thank God it went well because the team had prepared it carefully. For the implementation, there is actually no problem, it's just that it was constrained in finding accommodation for UM contestants. We are afraid that it will affect the participants' psychological and health condition, but all these problems can be overcome by UM, "he explained.
Dudung hopes that his team's victory can be followed by other victories from UM students. "Do well in all fields to advance our beloved campus. Also prepare yourself with entrepreneurship so that after graduating not only get a job, but also open up employment opportunities and be able to help other people around us, "he concluded. Nurul
