Welcoming the New Chapter of iCamp 2019
A series of preparations seem to be increasingly being carried out by the Office of International Affairs (OIA) State University of Malang (UM). This preparation was made to receive dozens of participants who were students from all over the world in the International Camp (iCamp) event. The event chaired by Nabhan F Choiron, SS, MA seems to be increasing, it is evident that tremendous enthusiasm also comes from registrants who are increasing every year. Inevitably, until July 2019 there were 841 registrants from 57 countries around the world. The 841 applicants will be selected by the committee and 60 participants will be taken to take part in iCamp at UM. Although the increasing number of registrants did not overwhelm the committee, the committee even admitted that they were very happy with the extraordinary enthusiasm.
This year is the fourth year that UM has invited students from various parts of the world to join the iCamp event. The theme for this year is Broaden Your Vistas, Elevate Your Global Endeavor. This extraordinary theme was also followed by careful preparation. One of them is the opening of the volunteer selection by the OIA committee to hold volunteer selections for all UM and other campus students. Until now, there are 54 volunteers, 52 from UM, one volunteer from Brawijaya University and one from Mercubuana University Jakarta. Those selected are students who have high commitment and have good communication skills, especially in English. This very strict selection aims to provide good service for guests at this year's iCamp.
Apart from accepting volunteers, the OIA committee has also prepared various divisions to organize the smooth running of this year's activities. The divisions that have been prepared include Event Organizer (EO), Liaison Officer (LO), Documentation, Logistics, Consumption, Secretariat, Security, MC, Transportation, Accommodation, Merchandise, Publications, Graphic Design, and Sponsors. "Even though we have prepared various divisions, we are also still working with various parties, either from UM or outside parties," explained Gloria Hardiningsih, S.Sn. Even in this event, OIA also collaborated with the Malang Regency Tourism Office and several banks in Malang.
So far preparations related to a series of events have also been provided by the committee. This year the committee provides Batik Class, Indonesian Dance Class, and Indonesian Language and Culture Class. The series is in accordance with the purpose of holding iCamp, namely introducing Indonesia to the world and establishing good relationships with various students from around the world. In addition, iCamp is also an effort to promote Indonesian tourism, especially in the Malang area.
Regarding the various obstacles in the implementation of last year's iCamp, it seemed to be a tremendous lesson for the entire committee. But actually these obstacles occur because of cultural differences between the countries of origin of the participants and the cultures in Indonesia. so that this year the committee has made every effort to avoid unwanted possibilities. "This year, the clear hope is that iCamp will get better in various ways, either preparation or implementation. The most important thing is that UM is increasingly recognized in the eyes of the world with its achievements and various positive things like this iCamp, for example, "explained Gloria. Sapphira
