First at UM ReelOzInd !, Not Just Nobar

The rain on Friday (1/11) afternoon did not dampen the enthusiasm of the ReelOzInd! Participants. to come to the A3 Hall of the State University of Malang (UM). They do not want to miss short films made in Indonesia or Australia that are screened exclusively. Event the result of collaboration between the Faculty of Letters (FS) UM, the Office of International Relations (Office of International Affairs/ OIA) UM, as well as Australia-Indonesia Center this presents several short films that won the Australia-Indonesia Short Film Competition with the same title, ReelOzInd! 2019 with the core theme "ChangeOr "Change".
Screening The short film invited students and high school students from all over Malang. Even some foreign students who are studying at UM do not miss filling in the spectators. ReelOzInd! officially opened after Dr. Suharyadi, S.Pd., M.Pd., Head of the English Literature Department gave a speech. Furthermore, eleven short film titles with a total duration of about 90 minutes were played alternately, four of which were from Australia, while the rest were films made by Indonesian filmmakers.
The variety of films shown also varies, from action films, two documentaries, to three animated films. Each title presents a different emotion. “Most like Bad Hair Day animation. Not just watching movies, the event continued with a panel discussion session. Of the four speakers who attended, two of them are already experts in the field of film, namely Herditya Wahyu Widodo, SS, MA who is a lecturer in English Literature at FS UM and Mahesa Desaga, an alumnus of Universitas Brawijaya (UB) whose work has won the ReelOzInd! Competition. Meanwhile, two other speakers are still active students of FS UM at the English Literature Jursan, they are Raynaldi Yudhistira and Aubrey Kurniawardhani. With the panel discussion that involved direct participation of the participants, all attendees were invited to explore more about the elements contained in the film and the culture behind its creation.
Director of OIA UM, Evi Eliyanah, SS, MA briefly explained the background of holding this event. According to his explanation, this event was born from the idea of several English Literature lecturers who wanted a different form of event that could support students' abilities in certain subjects. "There have not been many film study events held, therefore we decided to cooperate with Australia-Indonesia Center in order to present ReelOzInd! on our campus, "said the woman who is also a lecturer in English Literature at FS UM. The timing of the event is also an important consideration in planning. "It was deliberately held on Friday afternoon, because vibeit's very fitting for Nobar, "he said.
ReelOzInd! it has been running for four years and this is the first time it has been held screening several films winning the competition at UM. "Previously, it has been held in several universities, such as UB, ITB, Petra," said Evi. "Hopefully next year UM can also become the host ReelOzInd !.
