Warm greetings from the editorial team to all loyal readers Communication UM. Currently, in the midst of the swift flow of information as a promotional media, UM continues to make efforts to introduce this institution to the public through branding UM typical icons. The effort to introduce ME to the public was carried out with several models such as mascot, batik, souvenirs, and various branding other.
Coinciding with the lustrum activity which was held some time ago, UM held a UM Mascot Design Competition. The creation of the UM mascot aims to strengthen the introduction of UM to the public that UM is a new incarnation of IKIP Malang that still maintains local wisdom and the vision and mission of its predecessors. The UM mascot design competition activity starts from June to early August with the theme "Malang State University Innovates". The competition is open to all UM academicians.
The assessment process is based on originality and design ideas, the suitability of the content with the theme, and the level of possibility of implementation as part of UM's promotional media. The jury involved, among others, Dr. Pujiyanto, M.Sn., Papang Jakfar, S.Sn., Andreas Syah Pahlevi, S.Sn., M.Sn., ACA., And Yon Ade Lose Hermanto, S.Sn., M.Sn., ACA. Based on the results of the judging, ten finalists were obtained, namely Anisa Larasati (FS), Mohammad Reynaldi Dermawan (FS), Dimas Rifqi Novica (FS), Dimas Suryo Sumbodo (FS), Okky Bagus Wahyudi (FS), Arif Sutrisno (FS) , Mohammad Yusrin Abdullah (FS), Miftakhul Jannah (FS), Didi Ilyas Muqaffi (FS), Vanesa Indriani (FS). Finally, the name Annisa Larasati (FS) came out as the winner with her proud mascot named "Cakrawala". Cakrawala was born from the combination of the UM logo concept with the Malangan Mask. The cute mascot was chosen because it fulfills several requirements, namely having a design that is easy to mass-execute, unique, has high originality, and has also been scientifically tested.
After going through the finalization process, designers are advised to do several revisions, including giving the nickname 'si Cakra'. The concept of the Chakra is presentation branding UM mascot inspired from the culture of Panji Topeng Malangan which has educational content, the tri dharma of college, and the UM logo stylization. Finally, the culmination launching UM mascot "Cakrawala" was performed right at the peak of the Lustrum XIII and 65th Anniversary of UM on (17/10).
As a single peak launching, at the same time UM also released UM and digital batik branding the Chakra through sticker digital on the What'sApp application. Si Cakra was officially introduced to the public by the UM Rector, Prof. Dr. AH. Rofi'uddin, M.Pd. with the aim, UM will be increasingly recognized as a new figure of IKIP Malang who has an original identity as a friendly campus, a learning campus, a reference campus, and a campus with innovation and achievement. The chakra is a manifestation of UM's new spirit to look to the future with confidence that UM is able to compete in the era of global digitalization.
Cakra, a figure full of enthusiasm, cheerfulness, and optimism, has become a new icon of UM's pride. Hopefully, the spirit brought by Cakra will inspire UM students and the UM community in general. The entire academic community of UM hopes that Lustrum XIII and the 65th Anniversary will be a milestone in the history of UM's awakening to reach past glory through its new face, State University of Malang and its proud mascot, "Cakrawala" as the bearer of new hope to achieve glory in the future.
Greetings Lustrum XIII and 65th Anniversary of State University of Malang. UM Keeps Tradition, Bernas Innovation and will continue to boost its achievements. Long live UM, live my people!
