Gathering Overtime: Stay Tight Within the Alumni Meeting Frame
Overtime Meetings is a theme brought up in the UM Communication Magazine crew reunion on last Sunday (23/06). The event was attended by the Chief Editor, Dr. Anselmus JE Toenlioe, M. Pd, Managing Editor, Nida Anisatus Sholihah, S.pd, alumni of Communication Magazine crew, and Communication Magazine crew who are currently serving in this period. This event took place in the main hall of the A3 building, 2nd floor of the State University of Malang (UM), a building that used to be the head office of Communication Magazine before moving to the Graha Rectorate. Many stories are being told back in that place, from horror stories that make goosebumps, to overtime stories full of memories.
The reunion program was deliberately conceptualized with a relaxed and friendly atmosphere, the chairs in the main hall of the A3 building were arranged in a circle so as not to appear too formal and stiff. In the first session, the alumni and the crew of Communication Magazine introduced themselves to be closer. After the introduction, there was a games session with dorprizes that had been prepared by the previous committee. In this session, three alumni are invited to come forward randomly, then all reunion invitations can freely ask various questions. It's sharing time! This is where time is very valuable for alumni and the crew when conducting questions and answers and discussions. The activity took place excitingly with laughter, because the topics discussed were quite close to the world of journalism. Of course this is very interesting, because the source of the question is the alumni of the Communication Magazine crew who are professional in their fields.
Indeed, not all alumni are involved in journalistic activities, but this is unique. Now, there are those who work as government employees and teachers. However, they admit that the experience of being a Communication Magazine crew is very valuable. This experience was obtained by the entire crew, both those who used to be reporters, editors, designers and layouters. The knowledge they get from the Communication Magazine makes them not confused when they are in the world of work. This is because wherever and whenever, journalistic activities, especially writing skills will always be needed.
Not only doing questions and answers and discussions, stories of struggle and memories also spilled over at the reunion. The alumni flashbacks when they struggle with Nida, the managing editor who is always patient and loyal in guiding Communication Magazine to be better from year to year. In the past, communication was only campus info in the form of an ordinary newspaper, until in 2005 it switched to magazine form and now it has even succeeded in making an online version. Of course this is not easy and requires various innovations and creativity from the entire crew of the UM Communication Magazine.
Do not stop there, they returned to remember the story of the time when they worked late into the night to complete magazine deadlines. They admit that working overtime is not a problem, because they do it together. "All friends in communication have big dreams," said Ajrul, one of the alumni. At that time, they joked with each other and shared stories to eliminate the boredom of chasing news deadlines. Behind it all, there are unwanted events that suddenly appear, which even today are still a mystery. But this actually makes their own memories for them. Patchouli
